Resin, slate-effect or ceramic shower tray: which to choose
Swapping a bath for a shower is one of the renovations you notice most in day-to-day life. But before buying comes the big question: resin, slate-effect or ceramic? Here we explain it without the spin, from the point of view of the people who make them.
Resin shower tray: the balanced choice
Mineral-filled resin is today the most chosen material, and for good reason:
- Safety: good trays reach class 3 (C3) anti-slip, the highest rating. At Aquatit it’s the standard across the whole range — the Liso tray is the only smooth tray that doesn’t slip.
- Made-to-measure: cut to the millimetre, so it fits any bathroom, from 60×60 to 100×200 cm.
- Maintenance: a non-porous surface, easy to clean and repairable if it takes a knock or a scratch.
The only “but” is the price compared with a basic ceramic tray — but it’s an investment that lasts.
Slate-effect tray: design with character
The Pizarra finish recreates the texture of natural stone. Aesthetically it’s the warmest and the best at hiding everyday use. Technically it’s resin, so it shares all the same advantages (made-to-measure, anti-slip, waste trap and grille included).
Ceramic tray: the classic
Cheaper and very resistant to staining, but heavy, cold and hard to cut to measure. Sizes are fixed and the anti-slip rating is usually lower. For a made-to-measure renovation, it falls short.
In summary
| Resin/Slate-effect | Ceramic | |
|---|---|---|
| Made-to-measure | ✅ Yes | ❌ Fixed sizes |
| Class C3 anti-slip | ✅ Highest | ⚠️ Variable |
| Weight / installation | Light, easy | Heavy |
| Waste trap + grille | ✅ Included | Extra |
If you’re after safety, an exact fit and a modern finish, resin (smooth or slate-effect) wins. Got a special size? We’ll make it to measure.
