How Much Does a Resin Shower Tray Weigh? Weight Chart by Size

The weight of a resin shower tray comes down almost entirely to its surface area. As a rule of thumb, a mineral-filled resin tray runs at around 36 kg per square metre, so you just multiply the area by that figure to get a fairly accurate idea before you buy. From there, everything else (fitting, handling, transport) becomes much easier to plan for.

At Aquatit we make every tray to measure, from 60×60 up to 100×200 cm, and this is one of the questions we get most: people want to know whether they can move it on their own or need a second pair of hands. Here’s the straight answer, with real numbers.

Rough weight chart by size

These figures are approximate and meant to give you a feel for it. They can vary slightly with the finish and thickness, but they’ll give you a reliable reference:

Size (cm)Approx. weight
70×70≈ 18 kg
70×100≈ 25 kg
80×120≈ 35 kg
100×100≈ 36 kg
100×140≈ 50 kg
100×200≈ 72 kg

As you can see, it scales in a straight line: more surface, more kilos. A smaller 80×120 is easy enough for one person, while a large format like the 100×200 really wants extra hands. It isn’t heavy for the sake of it; that weight is precisely what makes the tray solid.

Why weight matters (and isn’t a drawback)

Plenty of people see it as a logistics figure, but weight actually tells you something about the quality of what you’re buying.

  • Stability. A tray with body to it doesn’t shift or rock on the floor. Once it’s down, it stays put, and that heads off leaks and creaks down the line.
  • Handling. Anything up to 100×100 is a one-person job with a bit of care. Beyond that, and especially the long formats, it’s better to move them between two. Not because they’ll break, but for comfort and to spare your back.
  • Transport. Knowing the weight up front helps you plan the collection or delivery. We ship across Europe with packaging built for these kilos, but if you’re carrying it up stairs, best to plan ahead.

A shower tray that weighs what it should is a tray that lasts. The density isn’t a fault: it’s proof there’s real mineral filler under the resin.

What about “lightweight” trays?

You’ll see lightweight versions on the market that weigh a good deal less for the same size. Let’s be honest about it: that weight saving comes from cutting back on mineral filler or thickness, and it shows. They tend to be less robust, more prone to flexing, and over time more likely to mark or deform if the floor underneath isn’t perfectly level.

We stick with the standard density of around 36 kg/m² because it’s the balance that best stands up to daily use. If your priority is a tray that lasts years without nasty surprises, the “real” weight is on your side.

The finish barely changes the figure

Whether you go for a Smooth finish or a textured Slate, the weight stays in the same ballpark. The surface texture adds a few millimetres of relief but doesn’t shift the total kilos in any meaningful way. All our trays also come with a waste trap and grille, carry the C3 anti-slip treatment, and are cut to the exact size you need, so the chart works for you whichever finish you pick.

If you’d like to see straight away what your tray would cost at the exact size of your bathroom, you can work it out in the sizes section and compare formats before deciding.

In practice

For most home bathrooms we’re talking somewhere between 18 and 50 kg, perfectly manageable with a little planning. Only the extra-large formats go beyond that, and there it makes sense to have a second person on hand to fit it.
